Ever since my blogging and cooking has turned into more of a passion rather than a hobby, I constantly find myself looking for ways to make things easier, healthier, or cheaper. I also have been wanting to add some consistency to my blog, so i combined the two ideas. Introducing, The Tuesday Trick! Every Tuesday, I will attempt to share a technique, a craving curber, healthy swap, or whatever the heck I find interesting that will constitute as a nifty read. Here’s my first go at it.
As most of us, I’m all about buying food for as cheap as possible, without sacrificing healthfulness of course. I prefer to buy my parmesan cheese in bulk, rather than shredded simply because its cheaper AND I just like to use this technique. For a lot of my pasta dishes or tacos, I prefer bigger cheese “peels” over shredded and I simply do not own a cheese grater (it’s my first real kitchen). The solution?
A potato peeler!
Using the same technique as peeling potatoes or carrots, you can shave off cheese shavings to the thickness of your desire. Very easy and cheaper than buying the gourmet shredded stuff!
I mainly use this trick for parmesan on pasta, but I’ve also used it for cheese on tacos when all I’ve had is a block of cheddar. Enjoy! Eat more parm! 🙂
Also, I would love your feedback if this was a helpful trick or not!
