Hi all! BIG NEWS IN MY WORLD: this past week I decided to rejoin the running bandwagon! I kindaaaa took a 5 month hiatus after my half marathon…Oops! And just as my luck goes, I start back up with running JUST as the temperatures begin to drop…story of my life. But, I refuse to run on a treadmill and always run outdoors, so I have been sucking it up and digging out my “colder” running gear. Lately, my running outfit has looked like this:
It seems as though I always pick out the same things to go run in so I thought I would breakdown the outfit and share my favorite cold weather running gear! Here are the 5 things I can’t live without for running in colder temperatures:
1. Nike Thermafit Fleece Hat –WITH PONYTAIL HOLDER!
Seriously, my #1 love. I am a huge wuss about my ears being cold, so I usually wear a hat anytime it’s below 60 degrees. Yeah, that wussy. This hat is AWESOME because it has a slit in the back for my ponytail to go through so it’s not all crammed in there and not fitting to my head correctly. It is so comfortable!
2. Nike Pro Pullover.
This is my favorite running top of all time. It Doesn’t necessarily have be Nike, I actually have a couple nice pullovers from Target, but my favorites are the Nike pro pullovers. Whatever you choose, if you’re like me, it needs to be light enough for continuous moving and thick enough for not to freeze to death. This one is lined with a thin fleece, but doesn’t make me feel like I’m running in an oven. I couldn’t find the exact one I have on the website, but this one looks similar!
3. Cheap gloves.
I use the cheap dollar gloves at Wal-Mart or Target! They are just enough to keep my hands warm, but once again are light enough that they don’t soak with sweat from my hands by the end of my run. If I’m using my touch-ipod, I have a pair that I cut the finger tips off so I can still swtich songs, etc.
4. Running tights.
I wear this pair of danskin running tights for everything. I like that they are breathable! I’ve had them for years and they have held up really well. I either like to wear a pair of shorts over them or wear them underneath my running pants (more below). Also, how much do you love the non-coordination of how long they are in that pic? Classic Emily, I tell ya.
One time, I borrowed these from my brother, Abhay, and loved them so much, he almost didn’t get them back. I bought them right away (and yes, I gave them back) after wearing them once. They are the most comfortable running pants in the world . Because I’m tall, the men’s version of the pants work great and are perfect in length. Often times I’ll wear my running tights underneath when it’s super cold, but most cool days I find these are enough to break the wind and keep my legs warm. Even though they are looser, I’ve never had chafing with them! **NOTE:I would model these for you like the rest, but they are somewhere in the abyss of my parents basement in a tub of my winter clothes that went missing and I still haven’t been back to find. WAH.
And that’s it for this week! Now you tell me…
Do you run outside in the winter? What is your must-have gear?
