I love diners. Any day, any time, any food…that’s the beauty of ‘em, right? On the way back from Chicago after the Hot Chocolate 15K last Sunday, my roommate and I stopped in Dekalb, IL (about 20 minutes west of the Chicago suburbs) at Flippin Eggs, a cute brunch spot off of I-88.
The menu, my friends, is HUGE. Like, 10 pages long and filled to the brim with brunch goodness…you can get breakfast (literally any kind of breakfast you want), lunch, fun flavored drinks, you name it.
One of the items we had heard about were the homemade donuts, served with powdered sugar and chocolate. We ordered 5 for $2.95 and they were incredible. Fried doughy goodness, the post-race snack of champions!
I ordered the ham and cheese omelet (surprise, surprise…i order this practically everywhere) and it came with hashbrowns, pancakes and grits…enough to feed about three people!
First time trying grits! Not really a fan…
Em ordered the veggie scrambler, which was also huge…
And she decided on pumpkin pancakes for her side…both were reported to be delicious! As a side note, they even had CANDY CANE pancakes on their menu…I think I might just have to return to try those out, as I have never heard of such a thing!
All in all, Flippin Eggs was an excellent choice! Our bill was a little over 20 bucks for all of that food, so in my opinion it was a great deal! I’d recommend splitting dishes if you do visit. The service was also excellent and we enjoyed the small town charm. Definitely worth the 5-10 minute detour off the interstate.
